This guide provides a complete walkthrough for moving a player and its licence from one Signagelive Network to another. Following these steps will ensure a smooth and successful transition.
⚠️ Important: Content and Data will not be transferred. Moving a player is like setting it up for the first time. All content, schedules, and historical data (like Proof of Play) will remain on the old network and will not move with the player. You will need to republish content to the player in its new network.
Before You Begin: Pre-Move Checklist
To ensure the process is seamless, please confirm the following points before you start:
✅ Administrator Access: You must have Administrator privileges on both the original network (source) and the new network (destination).
✅ Licence Check: Check the status of the licence you are moving. If it is an unused spare, or a renewal licence where the renewal period has already begun, please contact our Support Team first. They will provide you with a special "reassignment licence" to complete the move.
✅ Expect Brief Downtime: The player will go offline temporarily while it is being activated on the new network.
Step 1: Deactivate the Player from the Source Network
First, you must free up the licence by deactivating the player from its current network.
Log in to the Signagelive Network where the player currently resides.
Navigate to Network and then select Manage.
Find and select the player you wish to move from your list of players.
Navigate to the Licence tab.
Click the Deactivate button and confirm your choice.
The licence is now available to be used on your destination network.
Step 2: Prepare the Player for Re-activation
The player now needs to display a new activation code.
For most modern players (e.g., BrightSign, LG, Samsung, ChromeOS), simply rebooting the device is all that is needed. After restarting, it will automatically display a new 6-digit activation code.
Special Instructions for Legacy PC Players If you are using our older Legacy PC client, you must follow these additional steps to clear the old licence data:
Ensure the Signagelive application is fully closed (check that
signcontroller.exe
is not running in Task Manager). On the Windows PC, navigate to: Start > Programs > Signagelive > Remove Signagelive Licence Information.
In the tool that opens, click the "Clear Licence Information" button.
Close the tool and restart the Signagelive client. The new activation code will appear on screen.
Step 3: Activate the Player on the Destination Network
With the player showing its new activation code, you can now add it to its new home.
Log in to the destination Signagelive Network (the one you want to move the player to).
Navigate to Settings and then select Licences.
Find and click on the licence you deactivated in Step 1.
Click the Activate button.
Enter the 6-digit activation code currently shown on your player's screen.
Click Save.
What Happens Next?
The player will now activate on the new network. It will download its new settings and content from scratch, behaving like a brand-new device.
Remember to publish content to the player in its new network; otherwise, it will display a blank or inactive screen.
