Sometimes you might need to move a Player (and its associated license) from one Signagelive Network to another. This guide will walk you through the process, ensuring a smooth transition.
Why would you need to do this?
You might need to move a player if you:
You are restructuring your networks (e.g., separating by location, department, or client)?
Want to consolidate players from different accounts.
You are transferring ownership of a Player to a different entity.
Important Information Before You Start
Administrator Access: You must have Administrator privileges on both the source (current) network and the destination (new) network.
Content: Any content currently published to the Player in the source network will not automatically transfer. You will need to republish content in the destination network.
Data: Historical Proof of Play or other player-specific data associated with the Player will remain in the source network.
License Transfer: We, Signagelive, can only transfer licences that have not been used and activated against a Player or are being used as a Renewal on a licence, and that renewal period has already started. We cannot move a licence in these circumstances, and a reassignment licence will need to be provided by our Commercial Team, which our Support Team will assist you with.
Downtime: The Player will briefly go offline during the activation process in the new network.
Steps to Move Your Player and License
Step 1: Deactivate your player on Signagelive
The first step to moving your Player (Licence) will to deactivate the Player, as highlighted in the following Help Centre article here.
Step 2: Remove licence information (Legacy PC client only)
Please skip this step if you are not using our Legacy PC client. If you're unsure which client you're using, our Support Team will gladly help you.
To remove old license data from your Legacy PC client:
Close the Signagelive Client: Ensure the Signagelive application is entirely closed, and the
signcontroller.exe
process is not running in the background.Open the Removal Tool: On your Windows computer, click: Start > Programs > Signagelive > Remove Signagelive Licence Information
Clear License Information: The "Signagelive Licence Removal Tool" window will appear. Simply click the "Clear Licence Information" button. You should see a confirmation message.
Close the Tool: You can now close the Signagelive Licence Removal Tool.
Restart Client: Rerun the Legacy PC client. After a few seconds, the activation code will be displayed on your screen, ready for new activation.
Step 3: How do I activate the Player using a different licence?
Before activating your Player with a new license, please ensure it shows its 6-digit activation code on the screen. This code is crucial for the next steps!
Here's how to activate your Player with a different license:
Log in to the Signagelive Network you wish to use as an Administrator.
Select Settings from the main menu.
Select Licences.
You can choose the license you want to assign to this Player by clicking on it.
Select Activate.
Enter the 6-digit activation code currently shown on your Player's screen.
Click Save.
Your Player should now activate and begin downloading its new content and settings from the selected license!
What information will be retained by the Player?
Moving a Player to an entirely different Signagelive Network (and a new license) will not retain any of its previous information or settings.
Your Player will treat this as a fresh start, like a brand-new device. During its first Content Check in the new network, it will download all its new content and settings from scratch.
Important: If you've used a newly registered license that doesn't have content already assigned, remember to publish some content to your Player!
