What Players can be added to Takeover Groups?

Screen Takeovers is currently supported on the following Player types:

  • Samsung Tizen

  • LG webOS

  • ChromeOS

  • BrightSign

Be sure to check our feature comparison documentation for more details on supported assets that can be used in sync for your respective Player type.

Note that only Players of the same type can appear in a single Takeover Group (for example, a group of LG Players or Samsung Tizen Players). The model of Players you are attempting to sync/publish your Screen Takeovers to must also match.

Please Note

Screen Takeovers is not supported on the following Players: LG webOS 1.0, LG webOS 2.0 and Samsung Tizen 2.4

Can I display different content on each screen when using a Screen Takeover?

Yes, you can! There are a few requirements to bear in mind: the content being displayed on each screen will need to be of the same duration, encoding, resolution and content type (image, or video, for example). So for example, a video displayed on each screen with a duration of 10 seconds and a resolution of 1920x1080.

In terms of how this is achieved, we have created a dedicated article for this process - which you can read here.

What asset types can be published as a Takeover?

At present, you have the option of publishing the following asset types in a Playlist as a Takeover: images, video, web pages, Widgets that contain video and Widgets that contain image content. Should we add more supported asset types, our documentation will be updated accordingly.

Can I publish a Layout as a Takeover event?

You cannot publish a Layout as a Takeover. At present, Takeover content is restricted to Playlists only.

What is the difference between Sync Groups and Takeover Groups?

Players in a Sync Group will play all of their content in sync all of the time. This differs from Screen Takeovers in that Players in a Takeover Group will only perform in sync when their respective Takeover event kicks in.

Can I have my Players in a Sync Group and a Takeover Group at the same time?

No, this is not possible. Players can only exist in one or the other.

Can I add my Player to multiple Takeover Groups?

No, Players can only be added to one Takeover Group at a time.

Why do assets freeze/pause before falling into sync?

When Players transition from scheduled content to Takeover content in a Takeover Group, you may notice a brief pause on the screen before the Takeover content begins playing. This pause is expected and necessary for all Players to sync up and ensure smooth transitions between scheduled and Takeover content. The length of the pause will vary depending on the hardware capabilities of the devices running the Takeover content.
