In order to get our Tableau content displaying on our Signagelive Players, we need to set up a Sync Job within the Data Integrations application. This will result in screenshots being populated into the app from your chosen Tableau account. We can then publish this via an app from our Marketplace to get this content on our Signagelive Players. Follow this guide to see this process through.
Creating a Sync Job
Sync jobs actively pull information from your chosen integration (Tableau in this case) and return this information as screenshots that can then be delivered to your Signagelive Players. Here’s how you do it:
Click the blue plus (+) button located below the Tableau application
Under Details, give your Sync Job a Name
Under Synchronization Schedule, choose the frequency at which you want new data pulled into your Sync Job.
Under the Capture section, set the parameters for the Workbook you would like to capture and import into your Sync Job - be sure to select the account you set up in the previous section so that the correct Workbooks can be obtained from Tableau. At this stage, you can also add a new account if you haven’t added one already (follow the steps in the previous section to add your account)
Choose your Workbook from Tableau that you’d like to display in your capture.
Select your chosen View from the View drop-down
Choose whether your Capture Size will use a Preset or Custom Size
If you chose Preset, you’ll be able to choose from any of our Preset Options available
If you chose Custom Size, you can define the specific resolution you’d like your capture to render at
Finally, select Save at the top of the page and then toggle the Sync to ON under the Details area
Now your Sync Job has been configured, the integration will be actively returning screenshots from Tableau. Now it’s time to get these onto your Players! Please see the next section.
Adding your Tableau Sync Jobs into the Tableau app
You have your Sync Jobs ready, you’re actively pulling data from Tableau and now it’s time to get this to your Signagelive Players. We do this using the Tableau application, which is available for free from the Signagelive Marketplace. Here’s how to do it:
Switch back to the Signagelive application if you haven’t already (select the application switcher from the top left and then click on Signagelive from the drop-down menu
Select the Content drop-down then select Playlists > Create/Edit
Select Marketplace from the left-hand side of the screen
Find the Tableau app, click on it and then select Add to Signagelive
Close the Signagelive Marketplace (press the X in the top right) to be taken back to your Content Library
Filter by Recently Added and you should find the newly-added Tableau app that you just added from the Marketplace
Drag and drop the Tableau app into a Playlist of your choosing.
Double-click on the Tableau app in your Playlist, then select your chosen Sync Job from the drop-down menu displayed, hit Refresh and then hit OK
Please Note
At this time, screenshots will not be returned in the preview within the Tableau app (within the Playlist Editor). To see the latest screenshot being pulled from Tableau, you will need to switch back to the Data Integrations application.
Finally, save and publish your Playlist to your Players and you’ll be able to see your Tableau data displayed on your Signagelive Players once downloaded.
