When you are using Nested Playlists, you would add the Nested Playlist Control Asset from the relevant Control Assets folder onto your Playlist Timeline and then class the Playlist you have done this on the ‘Master Playlist’.
Terms Explained
Master Playlist: We call it the Master Playlist when the main Playlist has either the Nested or Local Playlists control assets added, as it becomes the Playlist controlling these Sub-Playlists.
Parent Asset: Parent Asset is the term used for the Nested or Local Playlists control assets in the Master Playlist.
Validity
If the Parent Asset has validity dates set, then these override what is in the Nested and Local Playlist.
If the Parent Asset doesn't have validity dates set, but the assets in a Nested and Local Playlist, then they would be used.
Recurrence
If the Parent Asset has recurrence days set, then this overrides what is in the Nested and Local Playlist.
If the Parent Asset doesn't have recurrence days set, but the assets do in the Nested and Local Playlist, then that would be used
If the Parent Asset has recurrence times of day set, then this overrides what is in the Nested and Local Playlist.
If the Parent Asset doesn't have recurrence times of day set, but the assets do in the Nested and Local Playlist, then that would be used.
Overall Logic
If any of the settings are set on the Parent Asset, these will be used, if any are not set on the Parent but are set on the assets in the Nested and Local Playlist these will be used. This means for example, you could set recurrence days and times on the parent, but within the Nested and Local Playlist set validity dates.
