Using Data Integrations, the SharePoint News Widget empowers you to effortlessly display news items directly from your SharePoint site onto your Signagelive Players. This integration allows you to keep your audience informed with the latest updates and announcements from your organisation's SharePoint environment.
Requirements Before You Begin:
You need to enable Data Integrations on your Signagelive Network. For more details, please see the 'How to access Data Integrations' article.
You need a SharePoint account authorised to access the API with a created page.
Adding the SharePoint integration to your Signagelive Network
Before connecting your SharePoint account, you must enable the SharePoint integration within your Signagelive Data Integrations application.
Log in to Signagelive: Access your Signagelive Network account.
Switch to Data Integrations: Click on the Menu button in the top left corner of the interface and select the Data Integrations application.
Add SharePoint Integration:
Use the search bar to find "SharePoint."
Click on the SharePoint tile.
Click the Add button.
Once these steps are completed, the SharePoint integration will be successfully added and ready for use within your Data Integrations application.
Connecting your Microsoft account to Data Integrations
Once the integration is added, you'll connect your Microsoft account (linked to your SharePoint site) to Signagelive. This is a one-time authorisation process.
Access SharePoint Integration:
Ensure you are in the Data Integrations application within Signagelive.
Click on the SharePoint Integration tile.
Go to Accounts:
Click the Manage button.
Under the "SharePoint" drop-down menu, click on Accounts.
Add New Account: Click the + button in the top left corner.
Log In with Microsoft: You will be prompted to log in with your Microsoft account credentials. Follow the on-screen instructions to authorise Signagelive's access to your SharePoint data via the APIs.
After you complete this initial login and authorisation process, you will be able to create sync jobs to retrieve data from SharePoint Sites linked to this Microsoft account.
Creating a new SharePoint sync job
A sync job specifies which news items from your SharePoint site will be fetched into Signagelive and how frequently.
Navigate to SharePoint Sync Jobs:
Please open the Data Integrations application and make sure you are within the SharePoint Integration section.
Click on SharePoint (located beneath the "SharePoint" drop-down menu).
Create a New Sync Job: Click the + button in the top right corner to create a new sync job.
Configure the Sync Job Details:
Name: Enter a descriptive name for your sync job (e.g., "Company News Feed," "HR Updates").
Synchronisation Schedule: Choose how often you want the sync to happen. We recommend a frequency of up to 5 minutes for the most up-to-date content.
Capture Section - Microsoft Account: In this section, select the Microsoft account you connected earlier.
Tip: If you haven't added an account yet, you can do so directly by clicking the Add Account button to the right of the "Account" drop-down menu.
Sites: From the Sites drop-down menu, select the specific SharePoint sites from which you want to display news items.
- Max Items: Specify the maximum number of news items to display at any given time.
- Max Age (days): Choose the maximum age (in days) that a news item can be to appear still. Older items will be automatically filtered out.
Preview Your News Feed: In the Preview section, click Refresh Preview. Your news items should appear immediately in the preview area below.
Save and Enable Sync:
Once satisfied with the preview, click Save in the top right corner.
Switch your sync to ON to activate the job and retrieve news from your SharePoint site.
Using the SharePoint News Widget
With your SharePoint integration configured and actively syncing data, you can now display this content on your Signagelive Players using the SharePoint News Widget.
Access the Signagelive Marketplace: Head to the Signagelive Marketplace.
Add SharePoint News Widget: You can search for and add the SharePoint News Widget to your Signagelive Network.
Add to a Playlist: Once the widget is added to your network, drag and drop the SharePoint News Widget into your chosen Playlist.
Configure Widget Properties:
Double-click on the widget in your Playlist (or select it and open the Widget Properties panel).
Your configured News Feed should immediately appear in the relevant drop-down menu on the Preview tab within the widget properties.
Select your News Feed from the drop-down.
Click the Refresh button. You should then see a live preview of your SharePoint news.
Set Additional Properties: Once you successfully see a preview, you can continue to set other properties for this widget, such as its Duration on screen and appearance settings.
Publish Your Content: After completing these steps, you can publish your Playlist containing the SharePoint News Widget alongside your other content. Your Signagelive Players will then begin displaying your dynamic SharePoint news feeds.
