Requirements before you begin:

  • An empty USB flash drive (formatted to FAT32) and PC

  • The .CRT file of the SSC you wish to register

LG webOS 4.0 (and above) - via the LG User Interface

In order to register an SSC through the user interface of your LG webOS 4.0 (and upwards) panel, please follow these steps:

  1. On the root folder of your USB flash drive, create the path /LG_MONITOR/certificate and add your CRT file to this folder

  2. Insert the USB into one of the USB ports on your LG panel, and navigate to the SI Server Settings menu on your device. Once here, click the SETTINGS button next to Self-Signed Certificates

  3. Click the ADD button, choose the certificate that you would like to add, and click the DONE button

  4. Press OK to complete the import process, and once the panel reboots you will have successfully registered your SSC to this device

LG webOS 3.0 - via the LG Certificate Tool

The LG Certificate tool can be used to register and unregister self-signed certificates on LG signage displays running webOS 3 or greater. This tool will not work on LG signage displays running webOS 1 or webOS 2.

Only one self-signed certificate can be installed on an LG signage display at any given time so you must be sure to unregister an existing certificate before installing a new one.

Requirements before you begin:

  • Self-signed certificate in PEM format (if registering a new certificate)

  • A USB storage device and a PC to configure the certificate and USB storage device

  • A mouse

  • A USB Hub (if your model of signage display only has 1 USB port - you'll need to be able to have both a USB storage device and a mouse connected to use the tool)

The tool is installed using the Signage server settings menu.

On webOS 3.0 this is accessed by:

  1. Holding the Settings button on the remote control until the chat bubble is shown in the top corner

  2. When the speech bubble appears, press 8, 0, 8, 0, followed by OK on the remote control

Please Note

On webOS 3.2 and upwards this can be accessed from the SI Server Settings menu.

Once on the Signage Server Settings screen:

  1. Set application launch mode to local

  2. Enable FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name)

  3. Ensure the application type is set to Zip

  4. Click the Local Application Upgrade > Remote option.

  5. Once the upgrade is complete, turn the panel off and back on.

  6. The application should load the certificate tool when it next starts up.

Registering a new self-signed certificate

  1. On your PC insert a USB device and create a new directory structure:
    USB Key - /procentric/scap/application/content/

  2. Create a new text file in the newly created content folder called custom_certificate.txt

  3. Copy the entire contents of your certificate file into the custom_certificate.txt file on the USB, including the ----BEGIN CERTIFICATE---- and ----END CERTIFICATE--- lines. The certificate should be in PEM format like the image below.

  4. Save the text file.

  5. Connect the USB mouse and USB Storage device to the LG display. Use a USB hub if required.

  6. Once the storage device has been detected a notification will show in the top-right corner of the display.

  7. Click the “Load Certificate File from USB” button to read the certificate from the USB.

  8. Enter a name for the certificate (must be 8 characters or less).

    1. You can use the on-screen keyboard or a real, connected keyboard for this. This can be anything you like but can not contain special characters or spaces. You will need to use the name to identify the certificate later on if you decide to unregister it so use something memorable and make a note of it for future reference.

  9. Enter the certificate password. You can use the on-screen keyboard or a real, connected keyboard for this.

  10. Click ‘Register Certificate’.

  11. A successful message should be displayed.

  12. You will need to restart the panel for the changes to take effect.
