The Player Manager’s Connectivity tab is where you can configure how often each Player communicates with Signagelive. Within this feature you can configure the following options:
Content Check
Health Check
Scheduled Reboots
Remote Screenshots (on supported Player types)
What is a Content Check?
A Content check is when your Player connects to our server to see if there are any newer schedules to download.
Once you have Published your content, you may find that there is a delay before that content starts showing on your display. This could be because of the frequency set for the Player, for example, if you have your Content Check set to hourly, you may have to wait up to 1 hour before the Player checks in, acknowledges that it has new content to download and then downloads that content, which could take some time.
So if you want to update your content very frequently, you should set your Content Checks to a small interval. If you only plan on Publishing content every so often, (once a day or less), you can use a higher interval, or even set the Content Check to once every 24 hours at a set time.
You can also amend multiple Players Network settings at one time using the Player Settings button from the Player Manager, find out more about that, here.
What is a Health Check?
A Health check is your player telling our server that it is connecting and working without issue. Each Health Check sends a tiny amount of data from your Players to our server to let us and you know that your Player is active.
You can also amend multiple Players Network settings at one time using the Player Settings button from the Player Manager, find out more about that, here.
What interval should I set my Content and Health Check to?
There are no set guidelines to this, as it really depends on how often you plan to publish new content and the type of content you wish to publish.
If you can plan to schedule and publish your content in advance, then we would recommend that you set your Content Checks to be infrequent (ie. once daily), but have frequent Health Checks (ie. hourly) to report your Players being active in between their Content Checks.
What is a Scheduled Reboot?
A Scheduled Reboot allows you to determine if your Player will perform a reboot at a predetermined time (minimum once every 24 hours if activated).
We advise that you do activate this option as it will help to ensure that your Player is performing optimally.
