The "Connectivity" tab within the Player Manager allows you to easily configure how often each of your Players communicates with Signagelive.
Within this section, you can set up essential options like:
Content Check: How often does your Player check for new content to download?
Health Check: How often does your Player report its health status to the Signagelive platform?
Scheduled Reboots: Set times for your Player to automatically restart.
Remote Screenshots: (Available on supported Player types) Capture images of what your Player is displaying remotely.
What is a Content Check?
A Content Check is when your Player connects to our server to see if there are any newer schedules or content ready to download.
Why is this important?
After you publish content, you might notice a slight delay before it appears on your screen. This is usually due to your Player's Content Check frequency. For example, if your Content Check is set to hourly, your Player might wait up to an hour before checking in, acknowledging the new content, and downloading it (which can also take some time).
Setting the Right Frequency:
If you plan to update your content very frequently, set your Content Checks to a small interval (e.g., every few minutes).
If you publish content less often (e.g., once a day or less), you can use a longer interval or even set the Content Check to happen once every 24 hours at a specific time.
Pro Tip: The Player Manager's Multi Player Settings feature allows you to adjust Content Check settings for multiple Players at once.
What is a Health Check?
A Health Check is when your Player sends a small amount of data to our server to let us know it's still connected and working correctly. It's like your Player saying, "I'm here and all good!". These regular checks help you and us confirm that your Player is active and online without any issues.
Pro Tip: The Player Manager's Multi Player Settings feature allows you to adjust Health Check settings for multiple Players at once.
What interval should I set my Content and Health Check to?
There are no strict rules for how often your Players should perform Content Checks or Health Checks. The best settings depend on how frequently you plan to update your content and the types of content you display.
Our Recommendation:
If you schedule and publish content in advance (not very often):
We recommend setting your Content Checks to be infrequent (e.g., once daily).
However, set Health Checks to be frequent (e.g., hourly) to ensure your Players are regularly reporting as active,
What is a Scheduled Reboot?
A Scheduled Reboot allows you to determine if your Player will perform a reboot at a predetermined time (minimum once every 24 hours if activated).
We advise that you activate this option, as it will help ensure that your Player is performing optimally.
