Dear All,

I am writing to you to inform you that Signagelive will be ending support of media players running Windows XP and derivative operating systems on the 31st December 2015.

You may have seen earlier in the year in that Microsoft ceased support of Windows XP Desktop Editions on 8th April 2014.

Support from Microsoft for Windows XP Embedded products ends in January 2016. You can view the details of Microsoft product life cycles here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-gb/product-lifecycles.aspx

When a product goes “end of life” this means that Microsoft are no longer providing either security updates or technical support. Due to this we are not able to guarantee the on-going stability and functionality of media players running this operating system.

We are therefore giving you over 12 months notice that you will need to upgrade your clients.

As the vast majority of our customers are running XP Embedded editions you will continue to receive support from Microsoft via your authorised reseller until January 2016 however if you are running a desktop edition of Windows XP i.e. Home or Professional support from Microsoft ceased 8th April 2014 so it is not possible to apply any security updates or patches and you may need to take action sooner than December 2015.

In order to prepare for our support of Windows XP going end of life you will need to purchase either a new operating system or media player from one of our approved partners to ensure your digital signage network continues to operate.

We need to do this to ensure we are able to offer the highest level of support and security for our customers and be able to offer the best possible Signagelive experience. With this in mind it is not feasible to continue to support an operating system product that is now 14 years old.

What will happen between now and 31st December 2015?

Assuming that there are no critical security patches that we need to apply to the Signagelive cloud product your Windows XP SP3 clients will continue to connect to Signagelive and operate as normal.

If there is a security patch that we need to apply to the Signagelive Cloud that does stop your player connecting it will continue to play the last scheduled content and you will need to upgrade your media player as we will not be able to apply any patches to the client as they are not available from Microsoft.

What will happen after 31st December 2015?

Assuming that there are no critical security patches that we need to apply to the Signagelive cloud product your Windows XP SP3 clients will continue to connect to Signagelive and operate as normal.

If there is a security patch that we need to apply to the Signagelive Cloud that does stop your player connecting it will continue to play the last scheduled content and you will need to upgrade your media player as we will not be able to apply any patches to the client as they are not available from Microsoft.

Our Support Team will not be able to answer any queries for clients running Windows XP and will advise you to upgrade to a newer client.

Any questions?

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our Support Team via [email protected] or ‘Live Chat’ within Signagelive

Best Regards,
