This guide will help you solve the most common display, connectivity, and activation issues for your LG webOS screens running the Signagelive application.
How can I fix display issues like a black screen?
When your LG screen is on but shows a black screen instead of your content, follow these steps from simplest to most comprehensive.
1. Basic Checks
Reboot the Screen: The most effective first step is a simple reboot. Use the remote to power the screen off, wait 30 seconds, and then power it back on.
Check the Input Source: Use the remote to ensure the input source is set to the Signagelive application, not an empty HDMI or other input.
Republish Content: The issue might be a single broken piece of media. Log in to Signagelive and try publishing a simple, known-good piece of content (like a single JPG image) to the screen. If the image appears, the problem was with your original content.
2. Check Application Settings
Within the LG screen's settings menu (press Settings on the remote), navigate to the Signagelive application settings. This is often found under SI Server Settings. Ensure the "Application Launch Mode" is set to "URL Launcher" and the Signagelive URL is correctly entered.
3. Performing a Factory Reset (Last Resort)
If nothing else works, a factory reset will return the screen to its out-of-the-box state.
Warning: This will erase all settings, including network configurations and the Signagelive app URL.
Press the Settings button on the LG remote control.
Navigate to the General menu.
Select Reset to Initial Settings.
The screen will reboot and guide you through the initial setup process. You must re-enter your Wi-Fi or network settings and reinstall the Signagelive application URL. After this is complete, the screen will display a new 6-digit activation code.
How do I troubleshoot connectivity and activation issues?
These issues occur when the screen cannot communicate with Signagelive's servers. This prevents activation and content updates.
1. Check the Network Connection
Press the Settings button on the remote and navigate to the Network menu.
Confirm that the screen has a valid IP address and shows a status of "Connected to the Internet."
If it's not connected, check your physical Ethernet cable or reconfigure the Wi-Fi settings.
2. Verify Date and Time
An incorrect date or time can prevent a secure connection to Signagelive's servers.
Press the Settings button and navigate to General > Time & Date.
Ensure the current date and time are correct. I think it's highly recommended to enable the Set Automatically option.
3. Address Potential Firewall Blocks
The LG screen needs to communicate with various Signagelive endpoints to function.
Action Required: Contact your IT department to whitelist the required Signagelive server domains on the network firewall and any content filters.
4. Resolving Activation Problems
No Activation Code on Screen: If your screen does not show a 6-digit activation code, it is a direct symptom of one of the connectivity issues listed above. The screen cannot get a code if it cannot connect to the internet. Solve the connectivity issue first.
Activation Fails in Signagelive: If you enter the code and it fails, first check that you have an available license on your Signagelive network.
If you do, please confirm the code with our support team and we can confirm if this is a valid activation code on our service for you
Our team will then open a new investigation to help you troubleshoot why this code may be failing to activate
Please get in touch with our team if you have any further questions relating to LG SoC devices and we will do our best to get you an answer to any issues you may be experiencing.
