Sync Requirements for BrightSign Players:

  • Players must be of the same series (mixing and matching 3, 4 and 5 series Players is not supported)

  • Models should ideally be the same (you can sync an HD4 with an XT4, but it is not recommended)

  • Firmware must match across all Players (and ideally running at least the latest recommended firmware)

  • Playlists must be compatible for sync (identical number of assets in each Playlist and duration of said assets must be identical)

  • Players must have rebooted at least once since their initial boot with the Signagelive application on the SD card

  • Ensure a default time server is configured in your BrightSign device's network configurations (default is ntp://time.brightsignnetwork.com)

What can be synchronised across BrightSign Players?

Fullscreen Playlists can be synchronised across BrightSign Players. This includes fullscreen image and video content only.

Network Requirements

When setting up BrightSign Player synchronisation, you must adhere to the following network requirements for the sync to function efficiently:

  • Ensure you are not blocking UDP multicast packets between screens

  • Ensure that UDP packet loss is minimal (Wired LAN only)

  • Ensure your Local Area Network has low latency (not slower than normal)

  • The Precision Time Protocol (PTP) multicast address 224.0.1.129 must be allowed

  • The sync group's broadcast address must be allowed. By default, this is the local network broadcast address 255.255.255.255, but it can also be a valid multicast address such as 239.0.0.1. You can configure this in the sync group properties (detailed here).

What Network Environment requirements must be in place?

You must also adhere to the following network environment for the functionality to work properly:

  • Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 Switching Hub

  • IGMP(v2) snooping Support (review multicast settings of L2 switch manufacturer)

  • LAN Cabling (Maximum Length 100 meters)=> Cat.6

  • 2Port Up-Link<PIM, PIM-SM> (optional) => Consider expansion in future.

  • Router (optional)

If your BrightSign devices and network configuration meet the above requirements, you can begin configuring sync your Players.

How do I sync my BrightSign Players?

To sync your BrightSign devices, you'll need to use our Sync Groups functionality. Please see this article for details on this process, or watch an overview below:

Changing the Broadcast Address for your Sync Group

If syncing LS4 or HD4 Players, you must ensure the Broadcast Address you use is a Multicast Address. To change the Broadcast address to a Multicast Address for your Sync Groups, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log into your Signagelive Network

  2. From the Settings drop-down menu, select Sync Groups

  3. From the left, select the 3 dots next to the Sync Group you want to change

  4. Select Properties

  5. In the Broadcast Address field, enter any value in the range of of 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255
