Sync capabilities will be available for ChromeOS devices starting July 28th 2025.
Starting with Signagelive client version 3.01 for ChromeOS devices, we introduced the capability for these devices to be used in Sync Groups for synchronising full-screen media across multiple ChromeOS media players. This article will guide you through the configuration process.
Please Note
Each player can only be a member of one sync group and cannot be in both a sync group and a takeover group. Players can only be synchronised if they are on the same LAN. Attempting to sync players not on the same LAN will cause issues with playback. Synced players should be playing either identical content or content of equal duration. They should also be using identical hardware and software.
Adding your Players to a Sync Group
Firstly, you'll need to add all of the Players you wish to sync to a Sync Group - see this article for tips on doing so.
What ChromeOS devices can be synced?
ChromeOS devices on our Supported Models sheet can be synced and must run the Signagelive client version 3.01.
What asset types can be synced?
On ChromeOS Players, there is no specific limitation around the types of content that can be synced. They will, of course, need to be a supported media type.
Web Pages/Widgets may not sync efficiently due to variance in loading resources.
Is there a limit to how many ChromeOS devices can be synced?
There is no enforced limit on the number of devices you can have in a Sync Group, though you must ensure that the firmware versions are the same on each ChromeOS device you are syncing.
Known Issues with Sync on ChromeOS devices
Issue: Slave players may display a black screen when returning to scheduled content after playing an interrupt in a sync group.
Reason: The slave player needs to reconnect with the master player.
Impact: This is a temporary state, and the player should quickly resume synchronised content playback after one or two assets.
