SUMMARY

Latest Update -

/ MAINTENANCE COMPLETED, 2FA RESCHEDULED /

28TH FEBRUARY 15:20 PM BST:

We are going to retry the update tomorrow (1st March 2022 at 9AM GMT), if it is still not successful, then we will roll back in the same manner as we did today. We will be able to identify this quickly as this will be the only change which is made, and therefore Signagelive will only be unavailable for 10-15 minutes.

PAST UPDATES

28TH FEBUARY 15:20 PM BST -

As part of this release, we were carrying out 2 parts:

  • Server Maintenance - to keep our infrastructure secure with the latest security patches

  • 2FA Signagelive release

The server maintenance was successful and was completed as planned.

The 2FA Signagelive Release
When doing releases, we build new versions of the servers being used, allowing us to swap the new servers in and take the old servers away. The first step of a release is to take Signagelive offline, so that we can perform any database updates required for the update, and swap the new servers in without users experiencing any unusual behaviour.

As part of this release, we took Signagelive offline, performed the database updates, and prior to swapping in the new UI servers, we perform smoke testing, as it is possible for the development team to access the UI on these servers without them being available to other users.

As part of this testing we identified an issue which allowed users to log in to Signagelive, but the main Signagelive application would not load, this was down to an issue where the tokens we use to identify a user, were not being created successfully.

The development team performed a number of tests to try to identify the issue, and were unable to, so to shorten the time that Signagelive was unavailable to other users, the release was rolled back, and the old servers made available again.

Since these we have managed to get the new servers working successfully, although not fully identified the issue which was occurring during the release.

This particular release only contains one breaking change within the database, which means rolling back is very easy and quick.
