If your Signagelive application on a ChromeOS device fails to launch correctly, often showing a black screen or getting stuck, it's typically due to the device being shut down improperly.

Step 1: Try a Full Restart

A full and proper restart can often resolve the issue before reinstalling the application. This ensures that all processes are correctly terminated and restarted.

  1. Reboot your Chrome device

  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift

  3. Click on the time in the bottom-right corner of your screen to open the system tray.

  4. Click the Shut down button

  5. Wait for the device to power off completely.

  6. Leave the device off for about 30 seconds before turning it back on.

Please proceed to the next step if the application doesn't work after a full restart.

Step 2: Reinstall the Signagelive Application

A fresh installation is the most reliable way to fix the problem if a restart doesn't work. This involves removing the application and then adding it back.

  1. First, uninstall the application. For instructions, please see this guide:

  2. Next, reinstall the application based on your setup. Choose the guide that matches your configuration:

How to Prevent This Issue

The best way to prevent this issue from recurring is to ensure the ChromeOS device is always shut down cleanly.

  • Always Use the Shut Down Button: Use the official "Shut down" button in the system tray rather than holding the power button or unplugging the device whenever possible.

  • Protect Against Power Loss: Connect your ChromeOS device to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for mission-critical displays. This battery backup provides enough power to shut the device down during a power outage.
