How to use the Aviary Image Editor

As of the 13th January 2014 you will notice that the Aviary Image Editor has been added as an application to your Signagelive network. The following guide will introduce you this application and show how it can greatly benefit you when editing images within your network.

What is the Aviary Image Editor?

The Aviary Image Editor is a web based image editor which we've integrated in to Signagelive as an application. This application gives you the ability to edit images that you have uploaded to your network already, or the chance to import additional media from your PC or external sources such as Facebook, Instagram, Picasa or Gmail.

Where can I find this application?

The Aviary Image Editor application can be located in your Applications Menu which is at the top right of your Signagelive network. This will be a globally added application and so you will find this listed with the Signagelive application and Message Manager if you have access to that feature.

How do I edit an image I've already uploaded to my network?

When you are ready to begin editing your images with the Aviary Image Editor there are two ways that you can achieve this within your Signagelive network. You can carry this out either within the Playlist Creator of your Signagelive application or in the Aviary application itself.

The following sections will discuss how you can edit your images via either method:

Editing via the Signagelive Application

When you are in your network you can edit your images at any stage by carrying out the following steps:

  1. To begin make sure you are in the Signagelive application.
  2. Please now click on the Content menu and then select Playlists from the drop-down menu that is shown.Aviary_-_Playlists_Menu.png
  3. Your Playlist Creator will now load and you will now be able to locate the image you wish to begin editing within the Aviary Image Editor.
  4. When you have found the image you wish to begin editing, please right click the asset from your library and a menu will appear.
  5. From the menu, please select the option Edit with Aviary and your image will automatically be loaded in to the application.Aviary_-_Edit_with_Aviary.jpg

You will now be in a position to begin editing your image in the Aviary image editor and can use the great tools shown on the top toolbar to get underway.

Please note:
This only will only appear when you right click on image format assets. You will not see this option when right clicking videos, RSS feeds or anything other than images.

Editing via the Aviary Image Editor Application

When you are in the Aviary Image Editor application you can edit your images by carrying out the following steps:

  1. When in the Aviary application, please ensure you are on the 'Signagelive' tab and you will be shown all of your available images in the manager.
  2. When you are able to see this image library, you can begin editing your images either by right clicking the image and selecting Edit with Aviary from the menu shown, or alternatively simply double click your mouse cursor on the image editor.Aviary_-_Edit_within_Aviary.jpg

You will now be in a position to begin editing your image in the Aviary image editor and can use the great tools shown on the top toolbar to get underway.

What editing tools does this application provide?

When you are editing your images the Aviary Image Editor will give you the following tools within your Signagelive network:

Feature Options
Enhance Aviary_-_Enhance.png Allows you to use a series of image enhancements  | Options: Hi-Def, Illuminate and Color Fix.
Frames Aviary_-_Frames.png Allows you to add a series of frames and borders |  Options: None, Pistol, Ivory, Punch, Instant, Studio, Antique, Splatter, Grit, Negative, Stamp, Museum and Matte.
Crop Aviary_-_Crop.png Allows you to crop the size of your images |  Options: Custom Setting, Original, Square, 2:3, 3:5, 3:4, 4:5, 4:6, 5:7, 8:10 and 9:16.
Orientation Aviary_-_Orientation.png Allows you to rotate your image |  Options:  Rotate and Mirror
Brightness Aviary_-_Brightness.png   Allows you to set the brightness of your image |  Options: Brightness Slider
Saturation Aviary_-_Saturation.png Allows you to add saturation to your image |  Options: Saturation Slider

Where do my edited images get placed on my network?

After you have edited an image within the Aviary Image Editor and saved this on your network you will find that this image is added to a folder named 'Aviary Imports' within both the Signagelive and Aviary applications.

Here are the ways that you can find this particular folder in both applications:

Within Aviary - Aviary Imports Folder

To locate the folder you will need to carry out the following steps:

  1. Firstly ensure that you are using the Aviary Image Editor application from the applications menu.
  2. You will now need to ensure you have selected the Signagelive tab that is shown.
  3. Within the Signagelive tab you will see a management area for your images. On the left hand side of this manager is a section called My Folders and it is within this area you locate the folder Aviary Imports.

To locate the folder you will need to carry out the following steps:

  1. Firstly ensure that you are using the Signagelive application from the applications menu.
  2. Please now click on the Content menu and then select Playlists from the drop-down menu that is shown.
  3. Your Playlist Creator will now load and on the left hand side of this is a section called My Folders and it is within this area you locate the folder Aviary Imports.

Within this folder you will now find every image you've edited within the Aviary tool. As normal you can now move and deploy this image within your Playlists like any other piece of content.

How to import images from external sources via the Aviary Image Editor

The Aviary Image Editor also gives you the ability to import images in to your Signagelive network via external media sources, such as Facebook, Dropbox, Picasa, Instagram, Gmail and many other options.

The following section will show you how to import images via these sources:

Connecting the Application to Facebook

To connect the Aviary Image Editor application to your Facebook account you will need to carry out the following steps:

  1. Firstly please make sure you are in the Aviary Image Editor via the applications menu at the top right of your Signagelive network.
  2. Within the application, please click on the File Picker tab that is shown.Aviary_-_Connect_to_Facebook.jpg
  3. When clicked you will be presented with an 'Ink File Picker' section on the left hand side which contains a list of the external media sources. From the list please locate and select the Facebook option.
  4. You will now be presented with a Upload a file from Facebook section and will need to now click on the blue Connect to Facebook button.Aviary_-_Upload_a_File.jpg
  5. When you have clicked the button you will be directed to a new browser tab and be required to enter your Facebook username and password credentials. If you however are already logged in then you will be asked to give permission that the Filepicker application can be connected to your Facebook account.
  6. When you have entered your login credentials you will be taken back to the Aviary Image Editor and will now notice the application is now connected to your Facebook image libraries. You will now be able to click on any of your image galleries and will be shown all contained images when you do so.Aviary_-_Facebook_Galleries.jpg
  7. After selecting a gallery, select the image you wish to import to your Aviary Image Editor and then please click the blue Upload button.Aviary_-_Facebook_-_Select_an_Image.jpg
  8. You will now been given an Uploading confirmation screen and you're moments away from adding your first image from Facebook to your network.

You have now successfully connected your Aviary Image Editor to Facebook and been able to import your images in to your Signagelive network. As discussed previously anything you import from any of the external sources will be initially placed in to the Aviary Imports folder.
