How to install the Signagelive Chrome IWA on ChromeOS

Written by Giuseppe

⚠️ Important Note

Signagelive's Chrome IWA is releasing on June 1st, therefore, if you are reading this article prior to this date, you may find that some installation steps are missing. From June 1st, you'll be able to install the Chrome IWA.

This article will walk you through the process of installing the Signagelive Chrome Isolated Web App (IWA) on your ChromeOS devices via the Google Admin Console. This guide is intended for ChromeOS administrators managing enterprise-enrolled devices through Chrome Device Management (CDM).

Requirements Before You Begin

Before installing the Signagelive Chrome IWA, please ensure the following:

  • Your ChromeOS device is enterprise-enrolled and managed via CDM. Non-enrolled devices are not supported.

  • Your device is running Chrome version 140 or newer. Older versions are not supported by the Chrome IWA.

  • You have administrator access to your Google Admin Console at admin.google.com.

  • You’re using the LTS (Long Term Support) channel on your ChromeOS devices, as this is the only channel Signagelive supports.

Please Note

The Signagelive Chrome IWA requires the Signagelive Companion Chrome Extension to function correctly. Without the extension, the Chrome IWA will fail to display an activation code on screen. We strongly recommend installing both the Chrome IWA and the Companion Chrome Extension in the same Organisational Unit (OU) at the same time. See our article on How to install the Signagelive Companion Chrome Extension for instructions.

How to install the Signagelive Chrome IWA

To install the Signagelive Chrome IWA on your ChromeOS devices, please carry out the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Admin Console at admin.google.com.

  2. Navigate to Devices > Chrome > Apps and Extensions > Kiosks.

  3. Select the Organisational Unit (OU) you wish to install the Chrome IWA on.

  4. Click the + button and then select Add an Isolated Web App.

  5. Enter the Web Bundle ID that applies to your region:

    1. Signagelive (London / EU-West) – [TBC – Production Web Bundle ID to be provided by Signagelive]

    2. Signagelive (AP-SE) – [TBC – Production Web Bundle ID to be provided by Signagelive]

  6. Enter the Update Manifest URL that applies to your region:

    1. Signagelive (London / EU-West) – [TBC – Production Update Manifest URL to be provided by Signagelive]

    2. Signagelive (AP-SE) – [TBC – Production Update Manifest URL to be provided by Signagelive]

  7. Press Save to add the Chrome IWA to your OU.

Once you’ve added the Chrome IWA, you can then:

  • Amend the application’s permissions as required for that OU, or choose to inherit them based on your existing organisational setup.

  • Set the Chrome IWA as the auto-launch (default) kiosk application for the OU by selecting it from the dropdown menu and saving your changes.

How long does it take for the Chrome IWA to appear on my device?

ChromeOS devices sync with the CDM at intervals defined by your sync policy (usually every few hours). To speed this up, you can manually restart your device a few times, which will prompt it to fetch the latest policy.

Please Note

Application updates for the Signagelive Chrome IWA (for example, new releases of the client) follow the same CDM sync policy. Updates will be pulled down automatically once available.

What to do next

Once the Signagelive Chrome IWA has been installed on your OU and set as your default kiosk application, you will need to:

Please Note

If you don’t see an activation code on your device after installation, this is most commonly because the Companion Chrome Extension has not been installed. See our FAQs and Known Limitations for the Signagelive Chrome IWA article for troubleshooting.
